"A Colorful Afternoon"

보통 사진을 현상 -필름이라고 치면- 할 때에는, 작가의 의도에 맞는 컬러와 프레임을 반영하는 단계를 거친다.
요즈음의 디지털 사진은 라이트룸Lightroom과 같은 디지털 현상 툴을 사용하여 동일한 작업을 하게 된다.
디지털 사진은 무압축RAW 파일로 저장할 경우 상당히 높은 관용도를 갖기 때문에, 작가의 의도에 맞게 더 자유롭게 창작할 수 있게 되었다.
그럼에도 불구하고, 변하지 않는 것이 하나 있다면,
그것은 흔히 말하는 '원판 불변의 법칙' 이다.
아무리 높은 관용도를 믿고 사진을 편하게 촬영한다고 해도, 결국 그 사진의 원본이 가진 한계점을 돌파하지 못한다.
이번에 촬영한 "A Colorful Afternoon"도 이와 같은 맥락에서 창작한 컷이다.
낮 시간에 사무실 밖을 나갈 일이 많지 않은 직업의 특성상 밝은 주간에 촬영한 사진이 드물기 마련이다.
그러다 보니 창작의 영역이 노을-저녁-실내공간에 한정되고, 자연스럽게 익숙하고 식상한 작품들이 많아지게 되었다.
크게 마음먹고 점심식사 후에 사무실을 나서서 주변을 한 바퀴 둘러보면서, 그 동안 잊고 있었던 밝고 진한 발색이 있는 풍경을 마주하게 되었다.
몇 걸음 지나지 않아서 만난 경사로는, 좋은 공간과 독특한 빛 반사, 한적한 분위기까지 모두 잘 갖춘 촬영장소였다.
오랜만에 밝은 주간의 풍경을 촬영하면서 새로운 영감이 떠올랐다.
노을지는 저녁이나 어두운 밤에는 표현할 수 없는, 그 컬러풀한 영감을 이 한 컷에 담고자 했다.
아마도 이 컬러 프로파일은 honeyJar Studio의 시그니처 프로파일 중 하나가 되지 않을까 생각한다.
새로운 도전과 새로운 시도는 언제나 옳다.

Usually, when in progress of development - in case of film photography -,
there's a process which is adapting creator's intention and color.
Digital photography in these days, development process is operated by digital development tool, such as Adobe Lightroom.
And digital photography, if you use uncompressed RAW format file, has vast level of tolerance,
so it also has possibility to be close with creator's intention.
In spite of those tolerance and convenience of digital photography, there's a solid principle that is never changing.
It is a principle of 'Photos can't make you look any better', usually saying.
Even if you believe in high tolerance of digital photography, you can't leap the limitation that the original copy has.
This photography above, "A Colorful Afternoon" has created in the context of that principle.
In my pattern of work, there's not much chance to go outside. So bright afternoon photos are very rare in my gallery.
Because of that, my area of creation is very limited in sunset-evening-indoor, so number of boring photos are naturally grow.
I have decided to go out and walking around in town, I faced scenes those are having bright and intensive color.
After few steps ahead, I faced the ramp where has nice feeling of space and unique light reflection.
I inspired by those scenes.
I wanted to put these inspirations, which cannot be expressed with dark night or evening sunset, into this very single cut.
I think maybe this color profile would be listed on the Signature Profile list of the honeyJar-Studio.
New Challanges and the New Trials are always right.
